New Philanthropy Capital's latest report on philanthropy, entitled Giving more and giving better, said that many major donors feel badly handled by fundraisers, who lack the requisite knowledge and skills to increase major donor giving. It found that fundraisers often don't contact them after they've made a gift and even offer glib answers to questions about where their money is going and how it will be used.

Public trust in charities has fallen

Public trust and confidence in charities has fallen to the lowest recorded level since monitoring began in 2005, according to a report produced by Populus for the Charity Commission. The research is based on surveys of a representative sample of over 1,000 people conducted earlier this year, and on discussions with four focus groups. The findings show that trust in charities has fallen from 6.7 out of 10 in 2014 to 5.7 this year. The public cite media stories, lack of knowledge and trust in how donations are spent.

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) have released a report on Understanding the Capacity and Need to take on investment with the social sector, the key findings are: only 20% of charities are incorporated as companies, providing trustees with limited liability, this rate of incorporation is increasing as newer organisations are more likely to register as a charitable incorporated organisation and of 160,000 charities, around 3.5bn is owed in outstanding loans of different types.
