About the Event

Trauma and Contextual Safeguarding Champions training

Safer London is hosting training and leading on the development of a group that will focus on building on existing approaches to include best practice informed by both an understanding of trauma and contextual safeguarding and provide a regular safe space to ensure that smaller organisations can come together with some more established groups to learn, reflect and support one another to embed best practice, alongside working through barriers and challenges.

You are invited put forward up to three members of your organisations to attend a full day of training to become a Champion within the community of practice. This training will be facilitated by Dr Carlene Firmin and Professor David Shemmings

Following on from the training there will be monthly Community of Practice meetings, where Champions will be joined by smaller, grassroots organisations based in London. The monthly meetings will be for approximately two hours and alternate in their purpose; with one session offering a further training opportunity around a themed session related to practices informed by an understanding of trauma and contextual safeguarding, and the subsequent one being an opportunity to reflect on that learning, explore practical application and support one another to embed the approaches into our organisations and develop practice across the sector.

In return for your participation in the free training we ask that Champions engage with the Community of Practice for one year and facilitate a minimum of one themed leaning session; should it be an area of experience your organisation holds or leads on.

Champions will also be able to return learning to their wider organisation and can liaise with safer London as this develops and surfaces learning about training expertise, capacity and resource needs in the sector.
