Training from ROTA on two dates 24th January and 22nd February. Introducing the Equality Act 2010 and using the Public Sector Equality Duty to Promote Equality – One Day Session
The Equality Act 2010 is the most significant overhaul of equality legislation in more than 35 years; key provisions came into force on 1st October 2010 and 5th/6th April 2011. Although to some extent, the Act harmonises and simplifies existing legislative anti-discrimination and equality protections, it also introduces new provisions and clarifies the law in important areas.
It is important that public bodies subject to the requirements of the new Public Sector Equality Duty (Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010) and associated specific equality duties are aware of these requirements. This course will provide an opportunity to explore the importance of the new PSED, the new due regard requirements contained in the Public Sector Equality Duty and the new specific equality duties; it will also highlight key trends and lessons from key public sector equality duty legal cases.
If a public body does not comply with the Equality Act 2010, it is possible it may be open to grievances, complaints or even legal challenge from employees, service users, trade unions and/or voluntary and community organisations.
This training will initially be delivered across a selection of London boroughs, for participants from any local authority and will encourage a positive, proactive and partnership based approach to addressing the PSED and associated requirements.
