SMILE Project - Research Seminar

Background

SMILE (Supporting and Mentoring in Learning and Education) is part of the Children’s Section of the Refugee Council and is based in London, Leeds and Birmingham. It is a project funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).

SMILE aims to reduce the isolation experienced by so many child refugees, by supporting them to access education and after school activities. It also works to promote inclusive education by challenging prejudices related to asylum and raise awareness of the needs of refugee children. Through its research element SMILE intends to influence policy and practice to mainstream the support required for refugee children, hence making a difference to the future of this very vulnerable group.
